A report commissioned by the NSW Business Chamber warns that environmental regulation is on the rise. And small and medium businesses are often not aware of the immediate relevance of these changing environment regulations to their businesses.
Over the next 20 years, the scope of “green tape” is expected in increase massively. NSW has the largest growth, with 68 acts relating to the environment passed since 1986.
The growth of environmental and planning law, environmental protection law, and waste and energy law, is the reason for the additional complexity, paperwork and hassle for small and medium businesses.
NSW Business Chamber chief Kevin McDonald told The Australian Financial Review the report highlighted the lack of concern in government about burgeoning green tape. There is plenty of rhetoric about cutting red tape, but until now, “green tape” has gone unexamined.
