Be conscientious and live longer

According to Californian studies, a person is much more likely to live longer if they are more conscientious.

The results from 20 surveys have been published in the journal Health Psychology under the title, “Do conscientious individuals live longer? A quantitative review.”

The study states: “Higher levels of conscientiousness were significantly and positively related to longevity… associations were strongest for the achievement (persistent, industrious) and order (organised, disciplined) facets of conscientiousness.”

The paper also says people who are “less conscientious” are more than 50% likely to die at any given age on average. Moreover, the study’s authors found people who live the longest are those who achieve the most in life.

“Results strongly support the importance of conscientiousness-related traits to health across the life span.
