Uber launches rental van service Uber Cargo in Hong Kong

Transportation network Uber is giving users a glimpse of what a delivery service operated by the startup might look like, TechCrunch reports.

Uber has launched a new ‘rent-a-van’ service called Uber Cargo in Hong Kong. Uber described the service in a blog post as “the same cashless and convenient service you have grown to love through UberBLACK and UberTAXI for all your moving and delivery needs”.

Users can load items in the van themselves, or request the drivers’ assistance, and deliveries can be tracked in real time through the Uber app. The item’s location can be shared with the recipient and users can even ride along with their goods if they so choose.

Pricing is based on time and distance travelled.

Hong Kong is a thriving market for rental van services, with a number of venture-backed startups already operating in the industry with some success, so it makes sense as a location for Uber’s experiment. It’s unknown if or when Uber Cargo will be available in other markets.
