Watchmaker TAG Heuer will partner with tech giants Intel and Google to launch a luxury smartwatch.
The Swiss smartwatch will be powered by Intel technology and Android Wear. President of the watch division of LVMH Group and chief executive officer of TAG Heuer, Jean-Claude Biver, said in a statement the partnership is a “marriage of technological innovation and watchmaking credibility”.
Director of engineering for Android Wear, David Singleton, said Google is thrilled to be working with Tag Heuer and Intel.
“By fusing beauty with technology, the Swiss watch has inspired generations of artists and engineers alike – including us at Google,” he said.
“Together, and using the Android platform, we can imagine a better, beautiful, smarter watch.”
According to Reuters, the watch will be a digital replica of the original TAG Heuer black Carrera. The global market for smartwatches could rise to 28.1 million units this year, from 4.6 million in 2014, according to researcher Strategy Analytics.
