Telstra finalises NAS joint venture deal with Telkom Indonesia

Telstra has finalised a joint venture agreement with Telkom Indonesia that will see its Network Application and Services (NAS) products offered to businesses in Indonesia.

A memorandum of understanding between the two incumbent carriers was initially signed in January, with confirmation of the deal coming late last Friday. It will be overseen by Phill Sporton, the executive director of customer service delivery for Telstra.

Under the arrangement, Telkom Indonesia will resell Telstra’s cloud-based products, bundled with it own direct connections between its datacentres and the premises of its business customers, with the packages marketed through both companies’ sales teams.

In a joint statement on the deal, Telstra’s global enterprise and services group executive, Brendon Riley, said the joint venture will focus on “managed data network and security services, as well as cloud and unified communications services”.

“The JV is an important step in Telstra’s Asia strategy and aligns with our aim to build new growth businesses that leverage the strengths of our unique NAS capabilities,” Riley said.

The joint venture aims to begin offering products in 2015. It comes after SingTel, the Singapore-based parent company of Optus, announced plans to expand a major data centre in Hong Kong in a bid to grow its NAS footprint across southeast Asia in April.
