Less than a day after announcing it is picking up the Samsung Galaxy S5 for an Australian release, Telstra has announced the Australian release of a second handset unveiled at the Mobile World Congress.
In a statement, Telstra announced an Australian release for the Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone, as well as a 4G version of the Xperia Z2 tablet.
As SmartCompany reported yesterday, the Xperia Z2 is a 4G Android 4.4 KitKat smartphone powered by a 2.3 GHz quad-core Qualcomm processor.
The Japanese tech giant is positioning its 20.7-megapixel camera, capable of 4k video capture, as the best ever used on a waterproof mobile phone.
Alongside its new smartphone, the company released a new 10.1-inch tablet, called the Z2 Tablet, which also runs Android 4.4 KitKat.
The device, measuring 172 x 266 x 6.4 mm and weighing 439 grams, is being positioned as the lightest waterproof tablet ever made.
In a statement, Telstra’s director of device management, Andrew Vollard, confirmed the deal.
“Yesterday Sony announced their new Sony Xperia Z2 tablet and smartphone. I am happy to confirm that both devices will be coming to Telstra very soon.
“This is the first tablet from Sony that Telstra will sell and I am excited about it. As connected tablets become more popular this device is great choice if you want something small, light and fast.”
Telstra has set up a page for users interested in the latest information about the device.
