We’ve finally finished the big move and we’re now in our swanky new office. The transition doesn’t end with the furniture and computers, though.
If you undertake a business move, it’s very important you ensure all of your previous address listings have been updated and understand how Google may have different addresses for you in its databases.
One of the first things I did when we moved was changed our Google My Business entries and updated the other sites that had our old business address and linked back to our website.
Google has gotten this information from any number of databases over the years, and it’s not always been the most consistent. For instance, we were at our old address for over seven years. Sometimes the address said
‘unit 2A’ and sometimes it said ‘factory 2A’. The fact of the matter is there are many occasions where Google’s own data resources can produce an incorrect result.
This means doing a lot of searching to make sure you’ve got consistency across the internet. Check all your social media profiles, local government directories, and any other place that might have reason to publish your address.
An often overlooked element is the need to change the structured data on your own website. Change your email headers and footers, and most of all, spread the word and let your customers know you’ve moved and tell them all about your new location.
