Optus customers in Queensland and parts of northern NSW have been left without landline, mobile and internet connections this morning after a problem with the company’s fibre optic network.

Optus customers in Queensland and parts of northern NSW have been left without landline, mobile and internet connections this morning after a problem with the company’s fibre optic network.

The problem started around 8:30am.

“At approximately 8.00am this morning, a fibre optic cable was broken on the Gold Coast, which affected services in Queensland,” a statement from Optus said.

“The following services are impacted for Optus customers – fixed line voice calls to and from Queensland, mobile services for customers located in Queensland, internet browsing for Queensland customers to servers outside Queensland.

“Technicians are on site and repair options are currently being assessed. Services are expected to be restored by midday AEST.”

According to reports, the cause of the cable break is still unknown.
