Global internet population tops one billion

The number of people using the internet has now reached more than one billion, not including children or users who access the internet on mobile phones.

According to research company comScore’s World Metrix measurement service, the big number was passed last month.

“Surpassing one billion global users is a significant landmark in the history of the internet,” comScore chief executive Magid Abraham told Itnews.com.au.

“It is a monument to the increasingly unified global community in which we live, and reminds us that the world truly is becoming more flat.

The group says the Asia-Pacific region accounts for most users, accounting for 41% of all users, followed by Europe at 28% and North American at 18%.
