Social networking giant Twitter will soon introduce promoted tweets in timelines, Mashable has reported.
The report comes as Twitter prepares to increase its ad program, aimed especially at smaller businesses, with a tailored SME solution said to be appearing by the end of the year.
The report claims that once the ads come in, they won’t leave. It also says Twitter is investigating ways to ensure the ads are viewed no matter what the user does on the page, such as making them stick to the top of the web browser.
Twitter has been criticised for its lack of revenue, with analysts saying the company needs to do more to ensure advertising dollars are put to better use. Several reports indicate ads will become a stronger part of the company’s future.
