HTC launches new smartphone handset

Smartphone manufacturer has launched an updated version of its Desire smartphone, attempting to undercut Nokia’s announcements at its Nokia World conference in London.

The company announced the Desire HD overnight, an updated version of the original Desire launched earlier this year. It hopes to market the device as an alternative to the iPhone.

Running the Android 2.2 operating system, the gadget features a 4.3-inch screen, an eight megapixel camera, HD video recording and a 1Ghz processor.

Another handset, the Desire Z, comes with a 3.7-inch touchscreen, a five megapixel camera and a full QWERTY keyboard.

More details about pricing will be released later this year. The Desire will be available on Vodafone and Three.
