There are plenty of movie session and cinema aggregators on the App Store, but most are American and fail to account for many of the local cinemas in Australia. My Movies is an Australia-based answer to that problem.
Developed in a collaboration between entertainment network and website my247, and development studio Liquid Interactive, the app has already been downloaded about 6,000 times in the last two months.
The app allows users to browse all the movies currently playing at any cinema for session times. However, perhaps the more relevant results can be found in the “cinemas” section, which searches for nearby venues and displays all the sessions available.
Users can also add individual cinemas to their favourites menu, to allow for quick and easy access. The search function allows users to search cinemas by suburb and location, to then add to their favourites.
After pressing a film, users are taken to a short description and a cast list, along with a link to the film’s trailer. Session times of your favourite cinemas are given preference over other nearby venues.
While the app is a little more expensive than other apps of its kind at $2.49, the sleek and efficient design and accurate database of local Australian cinemas is worth the cost.
