iPhone 4 jailbreak allows FaceTime on 3G

A new jailbreak designed for the iPhone 4 allows users to access the FaceTime feature, a type of videoconferencing designed for WiFi only, on mobile 3G networks instead.

The new JailBreakMe tool works similar to other jailbreaking methods in that it allows users to add apps to their iPhone not approved by the official App Store.

One of these apps is called My3G. It costs $4, and allows users to access the FaceTime feature over both WiFi and 3G networks.

“My3G makes apps believe that they are on WiFi instead of 3G. With My3G, you can now watch Hi-Def YouTube videos, use Skype/Fring/Other VoIP apps over the 3G network,” app developer Intellibom states.

Various jailbreakers have already reported the app will cost you in bandwidth, with 30MB for a 10 minute call – which is probably why Apple wants to keep the feature on WiFi only.
