iPhone App of the Week: LogMeIn

Most entrepreneurs would know the feeling. You open your laptop, look around for that document you were hoping to review and then discover you’ve left it on a different computer.

The LogMeIn Ignition app allows users to remotely control any desktop from the iPhone, meaning you can open and edit documents and use any type of program you could use if you were sitting in front of the computer itself.

Users must first download software on the LogMeIn site, install it on any desktop they want to control and then set up some simple security measures. From there, they can access any of those desktops through their iPhone.

The app works just like any desktop: users move the cursor across the screen and tap to open programs. A virtual keyboard is also accessible, as well as buttons for shortcuts like “ctrl+alt+del” and “alt+tab”.

The app is extremely expensive for the App Store at $36.99, but the company says the benefit of being able to access any desktop via wireless or 3G connections is worth the cost.

The app also works on an iPad, so you don’t need to buy two pieces of software for each device.
