Software giant Microsoft is preparing customers for the inevitable – it will cease support of some older versions of Windows during the next six months.
Support for Windows Vista RTM, which is the operating system without any service packs, will end on April 13, while support for Windows XP SP2 and every version of Windows 2000 will end July 13.
“Back in October 2009 we talked about upcoming dates for end of support for certain Windows XP and Windows Vista versions,” said Microsoft’s Windows blogger Brandon LeBlanc in a post. “Those dates are getting closer and this is the time to remind customers running these versions that there is a need to take action.”
“We recommend that those of you still on Windows XP SP2 install the latest service pack available via the Microsoft Update Web site—Windows XP Service Pack 3—or look at moving to Windows 7.”
Microsoft recommends regularly updating Windows by keeping the “automatic updates” feature on at all times.
