NAB warns customers about email hoax

National Australia Bank has posted a warning on its website regarding the recent spread of emails used to steal personal information and banking details.

The emails, which are disguised to be sent from either NAB, Visa or the Australian Federal Police, request customers to confirm their identity or make a payment.

“Fraudulent emails have been distributed that appear to be sent from NAB or other legitimate businesses that attempt to trick you into providing personal information such as NAB ID, internet or telephone banking password, credit card details, etc,” the bank warns on its website.

“Do not click on any links, open attachments or enter any personal information. NAB will not send emails of this nature.”

The bank suggested customers use SMS security features, update anti-virus software and keep operating systems up-to-date.
