Twitter search engine on the way

Micro-blogging site Twitter is inching closer to establishing a real-time search engine for individual sites in an effort to increase advertisement viewing times.

The social networking site first started working a homepage search engine, but said it did not work well with its initial group of testers.

But a new version of the search engine has been designed that puts a search box in the user’s sidebar, where other features and applications are regularly located. Additionally, new search results appear on the main body of the page along with status updates.

While there is no release date for the new search engine, Twitter says that the “technical infrastructure to support it is mostly in place” and that testing with feedback groups is underway.
