LG releases flexible 64-bit smartphone at CES, is working with Google on Nest compatibility

LG has unveiled a new smartphone with a flexible screen, along with an expanded 4K OLED television product line and a major upgrade to its smart TV app platform, during a keynote speech ahead of the 2015 International CES trade show in Las Vegas.

The LG G Flex 2 is an upgrade on the G Flex, a smartphone with a flexible screen first unveiled by the company in October 2013. As with its predecessor, the device features a curved screen that bends back into shape when bent.

The new smartphone is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, along with an Adreno 430 graphics processor, and runs Android 5.0 Lollipop.

It features a 5.5-inch full HD curved P-OLED display (the same size an iPhone 6 Plus) with a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, along with a 13 megapixel OIS+ camera and a large 3000 mAh battery.

LG also announced an upgrade to its smart TV platform, known as webOS 2.0, that supports the streaming of 4K Ultra HD content, along with seven new flexible, curved and flat 4K OLED TVs spanning 54.6, 64.5 and 76.7 inches.

During the keynote speech, LG chief technology officer Skott Ahn reiterated the company’s commitment to the AllJoyn and oneM2M Internet of Things (IoT) platforms across its product line. Ahn also announced the company was working to make its HomeChat platform, which is used to control IoT devices, compatible with Google Nest products.
