Google Android 5.0 Lollipop SDK now available for app developers

Google has officially released the software development kit for the latest version of its Android operating system, dubbed Android 5.0 Lollipop, ahead of its latest Nexus range of devices going on sale in the US in November.

The release comes after Google officially launched Android 5.0 Lollipop late last week, along with an overhaul of its Nexus product line, after first demonstrating the new operating system at the Google I/O developer conference in June.

In an official blog post, Google urges Android app developers to validate their current apps run on the new API level with ART enabled, and enable the Material theme in their apps with the AppCompat support library.

It comes as Google promises to rollout an Android 5.0 update worldwide to Nexus 4, 5, 7 (2012 & 2013) and 10 devices, along with ‘Google Play edition’ devices, with Motorola making a similar commitment last week.
