Last night’s Oscars honoured the biggest and best movies of the past year, but what are the most widely loved movies?
Harris Interactive asked more than 2000 US adults what their favourite movie of all time is:
- Gone with the Wind
- Star Wars
- Casablanca
- Lord of the Rings
- The Sound of Music
- Wizard of Oz
- The Notebook
- Forrest Gump
- The Princess Bride
- The Godfather
Harris Interactive also looked into the detail of which demographic groups prefer which movies. Gender makes a difference, with more men favouring Star Wars and more women putting Gone with the Wind at the top of their list. A similar breakdown occurs along age lines, with Gen-X (32-43) people voting for Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, baby boomers (44-62) for Gone with the Wind and Casablanca, and the older crowd (63+) for The Sound of Music.
