VLC records one billion downloads

Media player VLC has recorded one billion downloads, software developer VideoLAN announced on its website.

However, it also said the statistics were likely to be inaccurate, given it doesn’t include any downloads to Linux platforms.

The counting began at the start of February 2005, even though the app has been available for more than a decade.

VLC is a media player that can play virtually any type of media file, making it popular among computer-savvy users. The latest version, version two, has been downloaded more than 67 million times on Windows, and more than seven million times on Mac OS X devices.
