Sony announces Tablet Z to complement XPeria Z

Sony has announced a new tablet, called the Tablet Z, following the recent announcement of its flagship XPeria Z smartphone.

Earlier this month, SmartCompany reported Sony unveiled its flagship XPeria Z smartphone at the CES in Las Vegas, which the company hopes will help it to compete against Apple’s iPhone 5 and Samsung’s Galaxy S3.

According to PCWorld, the Android-based tablet features a quad-core 1.5GHz processor, has a 10.1-inch screen with a 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution and an 8-megapixel camera.

The company cites the tablet’s weight and thickness as being key selling points, with the device measuring in at 6.9 mm thickness, compared to 9.4 mm for the most recent Apple iPad, and a weight of just 495 grams, compared to 652 grams for the iPad.

The device will support 4G/LTE mobile phone networks and will also feature NFC compatibility.
