Nokia’s flagship has hit 2.5 million sales since launch, with the smartphone reportedly sold out in Australia, the US and Germany.
The news appears to be a vindication for Nokia CEO Stephen Elop, whose decision to abandon the company’s next-generation MeeGo platform in favour of Windows Phone had earned controversy earlier this year as a result of falling sales for the Finnish phone giant.
The reports, published by Yahoo China and republished by GSM Arena, suggest that Nokia might have already sold more of its Windows Phone-based Lumia smartphones than the company did during the third quarter of this year.
However, the news is not entirely rosy for Nokia’s partner, Microsoft, with SlashGear reporting that the desktop version of Windows 8 has so far failed to meet internal sales targets, according to sources within the company.
Microsoft management are blaming hardware partners for producing unexciting products for the platform.
