Samsung has revealed that its 2012 line-up of smart TVs will include built-in internet connectivity, an “always on” HD camera, twin microphones, advanced facial recognition and voice commands as standard features.
The smart TVs will automatically connect to Samsung’s cloud computing network, where additional apps available to download, while the advanced facial recognition will be used to identify and “remember” users.
According to HDGuru, while these features are not new for smart TVs, this is the first time these features have been built-in and hard wired into a TV set.
However, concerns have been raised about privacy and security implications of a television set with an “always on” camera being connected to the internet, including from third-party apps and malware.
