Samsung’s forthcoming Galaxy Note 3 smartphone could feature a flexible display, according to Korean press reports.
Korean news website Asiae reports senior managers at Samsung Electronics will make a final decision on a flexible screen before the end of August.
While the company is confident in its ability to market an “unbreakable” display, concerns remain about production yields.
The company has managed to create working plastic OLED (organic light emitting diode) displays for prototypes; however, challenges remain in putting the technology into high-volume mass production.
Inside sources say the company hopes to unveil the new phablet at the IFA 2013 consumer electronics expo in Berlin in September, placing additional pressure on the deadline.
The reports come just days after speculation surfaced the Galaxy Note 3 could use a new octo-core version of the Exynos 5 processor set to go into production during August, making it at least theoretically possible to include the new chips on the forthcoming phablet.
