The average Twitter user is a 28-year-old American with an iPhone, has 208 followers, chooses purple as a favourite colour and predominantly tweets about family or fashion, according to a recent study.
The study analysing 36 million Twitter profiles, conducted by social media marketing firm Beevolve and republished by The Wall Street Journal, reveals roughly half of all tweets are sent from the US, with female users outnumbering males by 53% to 47%.
The average user has sent nearly 800 Tweets and follows fewer people than follow them.
The study also reveals a gender divide in the topics users tweet about, with women tweeting more about family and fashion while men predominantly tweeting about sports or technology.
