Microsoft could be about to kill off Windows RT, used on the consumer version of its Surface tablet, in favour of Windows Blue, according to reports.
Windows RT is a special version of Windows 8 designed primarily for tablets using ARM processors.
It is not compatible either with software developed for Windows Phone 8 smartphones nor the (Intel x86-based) desktop version of Windows 8.
Business Insider reports speculation is growing the company will discontinue its Windows RT product line, with the platform to be folded into the next version of Windows, codenamed Windows Blue, which is expected to be unveiled later this year.
