Microsoft could have only sold a million of its Windows RT-based consumer Surface tablets, according to one leading analyst.
According to CNet, UBS analyst Brent Thrill has cut his sales projection to just a million units, halving his previous projection of two million units.
However, Thrill has higher expectations for Microsoft’s Surface Pro series, which will use an Intel x86 processor and will run Windows 8 with full desktop PC compatibility.
In contrast, the consumer version of the Surface tablet uses ARM-based processors and a special version of Windows, called Windows RT, which is not compatible with desktop PCs.
