Ice Cream Sandwich now on 23.7% of Android devices, but Jelly Bean continues to languish

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is now used on just under a quarter of all Android devices, according to new figures released by Google, but Jelly Bean continues to languish.

As recently as April this year, Ice Cream Sandwich ran on just 2.4% of Android devices. Aided by the release of popular smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S3, that figure has now grown to 23.7%.

However, 2.3 Gingerbread continues to be used on more than half of all Android devices (55.8%), 2.2 Froyo continues to be used on 12.9%, 3.1/3.2 is unlikely to grow beyond its current 1.9% share.

But in perhaps the most alarming figure for Google, 4.1 Jelly Bean is used on just 1.8% of Android devices, despite the release of the Google Nexus tablet.

The figures were collected by analysing the version of Android used by tablets, smartphones and other devices visiting the Google Play store over a 14-day period ending October 1.
