The Flashback malware that infected at least 650,000 Apple Macintosh computers was spread through hacked WordPress blogs, according to cybersecurity researchers.
In March, security researchers noticed that around 30,000 websites built on the WordPress content management system had been hacked by a cybercriminal gang, and were being used to deliver drive-by download malware attacks.
Security researchers at Kaspersky Labs now believe that the compromised WordPress blogs were used to spread the Flashback malware to Macintosh users.
SMEs using Apple Macs or WordPress are urged to make sure that all recent security patches and updates have been installed.
