Google to unveil a new version of Android and the Nexus 4 smartphone just days after Microsoft unveils Windows 8

A senior executive at LG has revealed Google will unveil a new smartphone and the latest version of Android at an event on October 29, just days after Microsoft is planning to unveil Windows 8.

According to GSM Arena, LG’s head of mobile product planning, Amit Gujral, made the surprise revelations during an interview on the Indian news channel CNN-IBN.

During the interview, Gujral also revealed the new smartphone will feature a 4.7-inch 1280 x 768 display, 2GB of RAM, a quad-core CPU with each core clocked at 1.5 GHz, an 8 megapixel camera and 8 GB to 16 GB of internal memory, with additional storage available through a microSD card slot.

While Gujral didn’t mention a global release date for the LG-built smartphone, it will be available in India by the end of November.

Gujral also confirmed during the interview that the new device will be the first to run a new version of Android known as Android 4.2, which will presumably also be unveiled at the event.
