Google’s driverless car gets licence in Nevada

Google has received a driverless car licence for its autonomous self-driving smart car project, following an approval from the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (NDMV).

The NDMV’s Autonomous Review Committee approved the application following test demonstrations along the Las Vegas Strip and through Carson County.

The licencing process also included a review of the company’s systems, training procedures, safety plans, and accident reporting mechanisms.

While Google was the first company to apply for a driverless licence, the US state notes that other technology companies and automakers have expressed interest in licencing autonomous test vehicles.

The application comes a month after a test demonstration in California where a visually impaired man “drove” a car to a local Taco Bell.
