Google announces “Intel inside” Motorola RAZR i smartphone

Google’s Motorola Mobility subsidiary has announced a smartphone based on an Intel Medfield processor, in a new challenge to ARM’s smartphone processor supremacy.

According to CNet, the Motorola RAZR i is essentially a Motorola RAZR Droid M, except it uses a 2GHz Intel Atom Z2480 Medfield CPU instead of a 1.5GHz dual-core ARM CPU.

The faster processor allows the camera to take 10 shots in less than a second while still having slightly longer battery life than the RAZR Droid M, according to Motorola.

The announcement marks a step forward for Intel’s smartphone strategy, with the company hoping to gain ground in the ARM CPU dominated smartphone market.
