Firefox isn’t returning to iPhones or iPads, Mozilla blames Apple’s “hostile attitude” to third-party browsers

Mozilla has revealed it has no plans to release a version of Firefox for Apple’s iPhones or iPads, blaming the Steve Jobs-founded electronics giant’s “hostile attitude” to third-party browsers.

While Mozilla did have a version of its Firefox web browser available for Apple iOS, the software giant pulled it from the iTunes store in September 2012.

According to CNet, the revelation of Mozilla’s hostility to iOS was made by Jay Sullivan, Mozilla’s vice president of product, during a panel discussion at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas.

Currently, Apple does not allow any app other than Safari to be used as the default browser on its iOS devices.

Mozilla also claims it is unable to fully port its rendering and JavaScript engines to the platform.

The news comes after Mozilla recently unveiled the first two smartphones to use its low-end Firefox OS smartphone platform, while LG, Sony and Huawei have all also signed up to build smartphones using the platform.
