The outgoing chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s cybersecurity branch has admitted that the US is “not winning” the war against computer hackers who attack corporate data networks.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Shawn Henry, the executive assistant director (EAD) of the FBI’s Criminal Cyber Response and Services Branch (CCRSB), made the grim assessment of current public and private approaches to cybersecurity during a press conference in Washington.
During the press conference, Henry stated that current defensive measures were no match for cybercriminals, calling the status quo an unsustainable model.
The assessment comes after both President Obama and NATO announced large increases in cybersecurity spending.
