Facebook growing revenues on smartphones, users on featurephones

Facebook has released second quarter results showing solid second quarter growth from both smartphone and featurephone users.

The company boasts a 27% year-on-year growth in daily active users to 699 million and a 21% growth in monthly active users to 1.15 billion.

The growth in user numbers saw the company achieve second quarter revenues of $US1.81 billion, up from $1.18 billion a year ago.

Revenue from advertising during the quarter accounting for 88% of all revenues, or $US 1.6 billion, with mobile advertising now accounting for 44% of all ad revenues.

Meanwhile, former Snaptu chief executive and now Facebook’s featurephone project manager, Ran Makavy, says in a statement the social media giant has managed to get 100 million featurephone users of its Facebook For Every Phone featurephone app.

“Today, millions of people in developing markets like India, Indonesia and the Philippines are relying on this technology to connect with Facebook, without having to purchase a smartphone.

“Ultimately, Facebook for Every Phone is a fast and easy-to-use native app that works on more than 3000 different types of feature phones from almost every handset manufacturer that exists today,” Makavy says.
