ANZ Bank has applied to the NSW Government to open its branches on Sundays. But it says it will open only in Sydney locations and large regional centres.
Rival Commonwealth Bank began opening branches on Sunday this week and BankWest already opens its branches where they are located inside shopping malls. The aim is to offer service to people already shopping in the centres.
ANZ says its move is to preserve market share in the light of the Commonwealth and BankWest forays into Sunday trading.
The bank currently operates three NSW outlets on Sundays – at Sydney Airport and Lismore – under special arrangements.
