Social entrepreneurship doesn’t get much more ingenious than this. A Belgian charity has figured out a way to harness a wasted resource – the accidental phone calls people sometimes make when they put their unlocked mobile into their pocket or bag.
According to Springwise, the Belgian League for the Blind has started a campaign asking people to make “A Blind Call” the first name in their mobile address book. Through an arrangement with a phone company, everytime someone calls the number – and it is usually the first number on a contact list that gets called when people make an accidental call – the charity gets a share of the proceeds.
Not only will their accidental calls now make a small contribution to a good cause, all those people with “A” names won’t get quite as many nuisance calls as they used to. Genius.
