Around four in 10 Android devices now run Ice Cream Sandwich or Jellybean

Just under four out of every 10 Android devices now run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or 4.1/4.2 Jellybean, according to new figures from Google.

The figures were collected by measuring the version of Android devices used to access Google Play over a 14-day period.

They reveal that 39.3% of Android users now use a recent version of the platform, with 29.1% opting for 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, while 10.2% use 4.1/4.2 Jellybean.

However, despite the release of upgrades and popular recent handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy S3, 47.6% of Android users still use Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

The other popular version was Android 2.2 Froyo on 9%, While Android 3.1/3.2 Honeycomb continues to be used on 1.5% of devices.
