Online payments company PayPal is expected to launch a new device this week that will see the company go head-to-head with Square, the mobile payments group founded by former Twitter chief executive Jack Dorsey.
According to GigaOM, the new device is expected to debut in the next two days and will compete against Square, Intuit and Verifone.
The device itself is said to be a dongle, which would allow users to process credit card payments through their smartphones.
This also comes alongside PayPal’s move to use payment services in retail stores. The company has been working with chains to make its payment options available to bricks and mortar consumers.
