Red Hat has announced that it will maintain support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 for 10 years, with 13 years of support for Extended Lifecycle Support customers.
According to The H, Red Hat will manage support in three phases.
During the first five years, Red Hat will provide customers with significant feature upgrades. In the year that follows, Red Hat will offer new hardware support, but only where the changes are not too significant. In the final phase, Red Hat will continue to patch major security vulnerabilities.
RHEL6 is predominantly aimed at the server and web application markets, particularly where long-term stability and legacy application support are required.
