VGA and DVI interfaces to become obsolete over the next five years

A new study suggests that VGA and DVI ports, used to connect computer monitors, will most likely become obsolete over the next five years.

The study, released by NPD In-Stat and published by TechWorld, suggests that over the next five years thinner HDMI and DisplayPort connectors will make the older standards obsolete.

NPD In-Stat research director Brian O’Rourke points out that, unlike the newer video standards, there are no clear upgrade paths for VGA or DVI.

Intel and Applied Micro Devices have both announced that they will end chipset support for VGA by 2015, making it more costly for manufacturers to include a VGA port.
