Rovio Mobile, the company behind the wildly successful Angry Birds franchise, has reportedly declined a $US2.25 billion acquisition offer from social games maker Zynga.
According to the New York Times, the company was offered the deal during the American summer but ultimately passed.
Zynga is currently in a “quiet” period before its public listing.
According to three sources, the NYT reports that Zynga also moved to acquire PopCap, but was also rejected. PopCap was then acquired by EA.
Rovio has been one of the most successful mobile companies in recent years, with its iPhone game turning into a major franchise stretching to other games, toys and films.
