Barnes & Noble launches Nook tablet

Barnes & Noble has launched a new Nook tablet in the United States, with the company hoping to compete against Amazon’s latest effort, the Kindle Fire.

The new Nook Tablet was announced overnight, and features a seven inch screen, 16GB of storage, 1GB of RAM and a dual-core processor.

The device will be able to access WiFi hotspots, with Barnes & Noble also saying it will have the “deepest Netflix integration of any tablet”.

“In NOOK Tablet, we’ve created the best wireless media tablet in the portable seven-inch class. NOOK Tablet’s VividView display has been designed to be the world’s finest screen for readability and viewing content,” chief executive William Lynch said in a statement.

“Additionally, we’ve seamlessly integrated today’s top entertainment services like Netflix, Hulu Plus and Pandora in a product that’s powerful, easy-to-use, under a pound, and a tremendous value…”

International launch details have not yet been announced.
