HP chief executive Meg Whitman confirmed the company is working on tablets powered by Windows 8 but would not reveal any more details, the Los Angeles Times has reported.
Whitman said that tablets would launch next year and that the company would also be adapting a more streamlined approach to its products.
“We’re at the beginning stages of a new segment in personal computing,” Whitman said.
“And I am a big believer in doing a small number of things really, really well – set them up, knock them down, set them up, knock them down.”
The confirmation comes after weeks of speculation that HP would spin off its PC business, although the company eventually shot those rumours down.
