Google shuts down more services

Google has continued in its move to shut down a number of services in order to focus on a select few, with its social venture Google Buzz being named in the next round of closures.

In an update on its blog, Google said it will continue to shut down more projects, with others being rolled into existing features.

Among the new closures include Google Buzz, and the Google Buzz API, in order to focus more on Google+. The company explains that while users won’t be able to make new posts, they can still view their existing content.

Code Search, Jaiku, and the University Research Program for Google Search will all close within the next few months.

Google is attempting to compete against Facebook, ramping up its Google+ network in the hopes it can gain more traction. Chief executive Larry Page said last week the service now has 40 million users.
