Android market share drops in US

New figures from Nielsen show Android’s market share in the United States has dropped to 36% from 37%, suggesting Google’s recent growth may have plateaued.

However, the figures also show Android continues to remain ahead of Apple’s iOS, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile.

The figures also show 26% of US mobile users now use an iPhone, 23% use a BlackBerry, while only 9% use the Windows Mobile software. Just 2% now carry a phone powered by webOS, and another 2% use Nokia’s Symbian platform.

Only 1% use a Windows Phone 7 gadget, although that number is expected to rise as Nokia starts producing its smartphones already installed with Windows’ new OS.

The figures also show Android users download the most, with an average of 582MB of bandwidth every month.
