iPhone App of the Week: ThumbJam

With the growth of the App Store and it’s suite of over 100,000 apps, many iPhone and iPod Touch users have become frustrated at the amount of “filler” apps purely designed to make money.

Sonosaurus has hoped to counter that trend with ThumbJam, one of the most detailed apps to come out of the store in months.

Primarily designed for musicians, the app allows users to pick from 30 different instruments and create loops using a variety of pre-determined scales. Users pick one instrument, record one loop, then have that playing in the background as they pick the next.

Instruments included in the app range from a plucked bass, electric guitar and drum kit to a cello, djembe and even the darabukka.

Users can customise the type of scales used, the octave range, beats per minute and can even manipulate the mix of several loops. The app can be connected to a PC or Mac through a wireless signal for users to export saved loops and tracks.

It’s a little on the expensive side at $7.99, but is great for creating music on the go.
