Over 70,000 blogs on blogetery.com, a website using the WordPress blogging platform, has been shut down by its hosting company and the reasons for the decision are still unclear.
CNET has reported BurstNet, the site’s hosting company, informed the website that it was shutting it down at the request of a government agency, but wouldn’t confirm which.
“Please note that this was not a typical case in which suspension and notification would be the norm,” BurstNet reportedly wrote to Blogetery. “This was a critical matter brought to our attention by law enforcement officials. We had to immediately remove the server.”
TorrentFreak, a blog covering the use of torrents, has alleged the site was shut down due to an increased focus on antipiracy.
CNET has also reported the operator of the Blogetery site said he always obeyed the law, and would shut down unauthorised music or movie files within 24 hours of being notified.
