Software company Adobe has released the Flash 10.1 platform to development partners, meaning users of Android, BlackBerry and Symbian operating systems might soon be able to use the technology.
However, analysts point out the take-up of Flash in mobile phones is quite limited, and Apple has continued to deny incorporating the software into the iOS platform.
“Flash Player 10.1 will be available as a final production release for smart phones and tablets once users are able to upgrade to Android 2.2 ‘Froyo’,” Adobe said in a statement. This could happen next month, but for other devices users may be waiting for some time.
Google engineering vice president Andy Rubin said in a statement that “Android is the first mobile platform to support the full Flash Player,” while Microsoft general manager Stephanie Ferguson said the company is “working closely with Adobe to bring the Flash Player 10.1 to a future version of Windows Phone”.
